Backstory to the illustrations: The Illustrations in the artwork were originally created for the Animal HEROES Hall Of FameTM after they approached Eleanor to help create the design for their ‘Walk Of Honour’ certificate to celebrate people and organisations around the world going above and beyond for animals. The AHHOF was created to honour brave and inspirational animals globally; animals that have lived through the horrors of being abandoned, abused, fighting for survival in puppy mills and testing laboratories, hunted for the illegal wildlife trade, held in captivity, dismembered, ill and those who have dedicated their lives to service in Search & Rescue, Police, Military and Fire services. They have each earned the title of ‘HEROES’ by performing acts of bravery, raising awareness for their causes and supporting others, both human and animal, coping in difficult situations.
Eleanor ensured to include as many inductees as possible, such as Lizzy, the inspiration behind the AHHOF. Lizzy was a pointer, used for hunting and breeding. When she became too old and ill with cancer her ‘owner’ threw her out of a moving vehicle causing severe damage to her jaw and wounds all over her body. She was found, a day away from death, on a deserted dirt road. Rescued by the AHHOF founder, she slowly recovered and lived a happy life until passing away in her sleep, on her mum’s bed, four years later at approximately 16 years old. Lizzy’s courage, trust and ability to overcome adversity led her to become the first AHHOF inductee on May 28th, 2020.
Please go to the AHHOF website and you will find an interactive photo of this design on their Home Page linking to the heart-warming and inspirational stories of the animals depicted in this piece as well as to the many incredible animals who have dedicated their lives to advocating and helping others (http://www.animalheroeshalloffame.com)
